Rocky Pastures Farm, LLC or RPF is a 4 acre homestead farm in beautiful Travelers Rest, SC.
It all started with a lively conversation. Our son told us all about the virtues of clean, non-gmo foods. It made a lot of sense and the adventure began. We went from 4 raised beds to producing most of the food we eat as a family. We started like most folk, with chickens (they really are the gateway drug). Then we added KuneKune pigs and turkeys. It was so memorable to have everyone gathered around the Thankgiving table with our own turkey front and center. Mornings with homemade bacon and extra large eggs can't be beat either. We are so thankful to God.
In 2018 we began seriously growing medicinal herbs, sharing some of our salves and teas with friends and family. Turns out we’re not the only folks wanting more natural remedies. Neighbors started asking for tea blends. Some teas for their decongestant properties, some for their soothing effects on the digestive system. Salves for skin irritations, diaper rash and muscle aches and pain are popular requests too. Of course, we are not doctors. KuneKune Pigs
Originally from New Zealand, these heritage pigs are a joy to raise and they are minimal rooters. In fact our chickens dig much bigger holes. We've been working on our lines, selecting for good size litters and faster growth, for over eight years. The introduction of the Topeka/Whakanui line to our Boris/Jenny stock has made a remarkable improvement. We sell breeding stock and freezer stock.
Medicinal Herbs & Salves
"Farm to feel good naturally." It's not just a tagline for us, it's way of life. We grow and use all the herbs we raise ourselves. From Feverfew, which we use for migraines, to Skullcap, which we use for a calming tea (really nice with peppermint and Stevia), or Nettles for trigger finger and hurting joints. Our line of salves, teas and ointments are formuated to help you feel good - naturally. Please bear in mind, we are not doctors and cannot diagnose or give medical advice.
All Natural Soaps
Rocky Pastures line of all-natural soaps are made with our own lard. Naturally moisturizing and no harsh detergents. We also infuse some of our soaps with our own herbs like calendula (historically used to nourish the skin) and wild-foraged Jewelweed (used to ease poison ivy rash) Try the whole collection. Add a luffa for a great scrub (we grow those too).
Seedling Plants
Our barn glows like the surface of the sun from February until May, and on into the season. Varieties vary from season-to-season, but we always include a range of specialty peppers, tomatoes, squash and gourds. We source the seeds we use from several different organic producers, avoiding hybrids because we like to save seeds too. Being determined sort of folks, we produce over 70% of what we eat every year.
